Innovative Physical Therapy Products

The present practice of physical therapy is the outcome of its evolution as a science of healing and an art of caring. Throughout the course of time, physical therapy has advanced together with the advancements of technology and medical science. It has become more sophisticated and more recognized with the advent of innovative technological products used in the practice of this profession.

Below are just some of the physical therapy products that have been invented to further facilitate and advance the practice of physical therapy.

1. Orbital Pilates Balance Gym

Distributed by Orbital Enterprises LLC, this extremely stable platform is tailored for use as a resistance conditioning station when doing the Pilates method of physical therapy. Its advantage over the traditional balance boards is that its left and right foot platforms operate independently of each other. The system has Pilates resistance tubes, a resistance bar, and roll-up bar. This innovative physical therapy product makes a complete body workout gym. With this equipment, you can do balance training, body conditioning, weight and non-weight bearing stretches, various strengthening exercises, ankle and foot conditioning, and a lot more.

2. Easy Stand Shadow Tray

Designed to fit larger clients, this is Altimate Medical's innovative version of its EasyStand Evoly line of standing frames. Its depth can be adjusted from 10 to 18 inches to accommodate more space between the chest and back pads. It is available in two height ranges: 10 1/2 inches from the seat (short) and 13 1/2 inches from the seat (tall). This tray provides full support to users while sitting and standing, and can be accessed in most positions. It comes in three models: youth, adult, and XT, and can be appended to the modular base any time.

3. Arthritis Pad

Battle Creek's offering for arthritis physical therapy provides extreme, moist heat and has a hands-free push-button switch that generates pain relief. It comes with a built-in timer that cools the heating system in 20 minutes should you forget to turn the switch off. The intense moist heat penetrates deeply leading to alleviation of muscle spasms, arthritis pain, back pain, sciatic pain, fibromyalgia and TMJ. This physical therapy product is available in four sizes.

4. A Crutch that absorbs shock

Millennial Medical's In-Motion Pro Crutch provides a spring-assisted, shock-absorbing system that can contain impact when walking. It also makes possible the positive return of energy in forward motion, and provides comfort even on uneven ground. Its general design and extra cushioning help eliminate jamming of underarm and promote easy folding and storage. This physical therapy product comes with an anatomical handle that places your wrist and hand in a natural position, and helps minimize carpal tunnel damage.

5. Fitness balls

Designed to strengthen and tone all muscle groups, the new fitness balls from BodySport can be used alone or in conjunction with a comprehensive workout program. This physical therapy product improves coordination and balance and enhances muscle flexibility. Its slightly ridged surface aids in the improvement of the user's grip. It also comes with an air pump and exercise poster that serves as a user's guide through body-toning exercises. These balls are offered in a slow-release version that allows for gradual deflation in case of perforation or puncture.

There are indeed numerous physical therapy products available in the market today. Such products are designed to not only to promote physical recovery and restoration of function and movement of a certain injured area of your body, but also general body fitness.
